My name is Maria and I love teaching many different subjects. I was born in Louisiana but now I live in Ireland so I have taught in person on two continents. My online students reside in 5 different continents! I have taught children and adults (primary to university) English, Mathematics, History, Latin, Literature, Writing and Linguistics for the last 21 years. I believe in pushing students to be their best in every area and to move out of their comfort zone. My qualifications include two bachelor degrees, one in history and another in English with minors in Latin and linguistics. I also have a master's degree in Greek and Latin. I completed 5 years of my Ph.D. in medieval Irish before going on maternity leave. I have earned my TEFL cert and finished the TEFL Advanced Grammar course. I currently am a math tutor for Leaving Certificate students in Ireland and ESL students for Engoo. I have taught Latin for elementary, high school and university students over the last 21 years. I received the Jack Kent Cooke Fellowship and many other awards and scholarships during my academic studies. I have written in a few magazines and co-authored a chapter in a book. This summer I have been invited to teach a Writing and Imagination course for John Hopkins University CTY program I have a very flexible schedule and am happy to accommodate students' preferred timetables. I have been a teacher of Spanish in Dublin (Ireland) for 18 years. I have taught and I am teaching at different levels and different institutions. My experience includes Secondary School at Junior and Leaving Certificate Levels, adult education covering every level on the European Framework of Languages (A1 to C2) at evening schools and Instituto Cervantes, third level teaching and lecturing - from grammar at Dublin City University (DCU), to Spanish for Business at Dublin Business School (DBS) or Text Analysis and Oral Interaction at Trinity College Dublin (TCD). Apart from all the teaching and lecturing experience over these 18 years, I am also an External Examiner both for Oral Exams at Third Level institutions and Written Exams at Junior and Leaving Certificate levels. My main achievement and what makes me proud and happy of my work as a teacher, apart from teaching and lecturing in globally recognized schools and Universities, is the appreciation I get from past and current students everywhere.
