Online classes can be followed from anywhere you want. You can be at home in your cosy room or abroad when you are travelling. The only thing you need is a device with a stable internet connection, microphone, and camera. The teacher will use a video chat application like Skype or Zoom for their classes. They can share their screen, so you will be able to follow the classes while simultaneously see the board in big on your screen.

Offline classes are also a nice possibility. You can discuss with your teacher where you want to have the class, this can be in your or the teachers home, a library nearby or a study café. It is totally up to you.

Experienced teacher/lecturer who offers Mathematics and Statistics Lessons

Marx D.

Speaks: English, Simple English, Spanish

Personal Statement for Dr Marx Dambaza As a teacher with over 33 years of hands-on teaching experience, I am excited about the opportunity to apply my skills and experience in your high school mathematics teacher role. In addition to my Bachelor of Education in Mathematics, I also have other degrees in Applied Mathematics and Management. Again I have fourteen years of experience teaching mathematics to middle and high school students and more than sixteen years of university teaching experience. I love teaching Mathematics and Statistics and I enjoy sharing my knowledge, wisdom and experiences with my students. I have been improving my teaching skills throughout my career. I strive to have my students keep the zest for learning, questioning and discovering after they take my course also through my elementary research coaching. I am applying for teaching Mathematics and Statistics because I feel I have the potential to inspire and encourage young minds of all abilities to reach their full potential in the subjects, seemingly complex subjects. My vast experience allowed me to experience life in a secondary school setting from a teacher’s perspective. I enjoyed that every day is different and that each child unique. During my education, I have consistently enjoyed Mathematics especially the Calculus, Algebra, Geometry and Statistics sections. My experience spans from 1991, after graduating from university with a BSc.Ed in mathematics education, I taught Cambridge (British) syllabus at Ordinary and Advanced levels with great easy and success. I was able to provide extra support for individual pupils who were underachieving in literacy and numeracy, and encouraged them to learn to their full potentials. In my early years of teaching at high school, my interpersonal skills improved immensely as I had to communicate with students from Form 1 (Grade 8) to “A” level (Grade 12) with different abilities, religions and cultures. It was both challenging and extremely enjoyable. The most enjoyable aspect for me was helping with small group work and assisting the pupils in lessons of Mathematics using ICT as an educational and motivational tool. It was very rewarding as I saw pupils who struggled in the subject areas improved. As further evidence of my patient and caring nature, I followed and visited home of parents of my students, where I conversed with them about their children in my classes. It was enjoyable to hear about their childhood experiences and the past from their personal points of view. This programme aided me in being more approachable, confident and trustworthy with students. In 1993, I was elevated to head of mathematics department post at Chegato High School, Zimbabwe, a post I held up to the time I became a Mathematics lecturer at Midlands State University, Zimbabwe in 2000. At university I found out that, Mathematics/Statistics at times can be the most frustrating subject; the best feeling in Mathematics/Statistics for me is when I get the right answer to a very problematic question. Every mathematical problem is like a puzzle, at times it can be hard work but all you need is the right jigsaw pieces to fit the puzzle. In the words of Stefan Banach, it has made me realise that 'Mathematics/Statistics is the most beautiful and most powerful creation of the human spirit.' This caught my attention because mathematics shows a solution to every problem for example, in my “A” level further mathematic teachings I came across to a topic called 'Proof by induction' which has been the most alluring thing in my mathematic studies so far. Proof by induction is a challenging topic but the beauty about it has intrigued my love for mathematics even more. During my education, I enjoyed all my modules for Mathematics and Statistics. My favourite area was Statistics because it focuses on thought processes, research and problem solving. Multivariate Analysis, Statistical Inference (Estimation and Hypothesis Testing), Survey Techniques, Probability Theory and Research Methods are my favourite parts of Statistics. I love working with young minds because I take the opportunity of inspiring them to take interest in something that will be beneficial for them. Whilst on my work experience at Mammutla High School in South Africa I was a facilitator teacher at Grade 12 Revision Camps helping final year students out with their subjects, in mathematics as they prepared for the final public examinations (Matriculant Exams). Throughout my work experience as an expatriate teacher, I gained confidence talking to other staff, problem solving by tackling questions that students wanted help on and helping other teachers conduct teaching on certain topics they found difficult. It was the direct experience of working with children in a district that proved to me that my true personal interest, and consequently my career ambitions, lies in secondary school teaching. I have a genuine passion for working with and for children, which really became apparent to me in my work experience with other teachers in collaboration for the benefit of students from different backgrounds and school. Grade 12 Revision Camps consist of Grade 12 students from all schools in the district camping at one location for collaborative and coordinated revision facilitated by outstanding teachers from the district. I believe that I already have a deep respect for children, but I need to learn about the different needs of individual learners. I realise that cultural and linguistic diversity have implications for working in a school, and that learning is always an active process. Secondary age children need very particular sorts of understanding, and as teacher I must be aware of what makes for effective teaching. Having spent some years teaching at university, I shall need to develop specialist skills and knowledge relevant to secondary age pupils, and discover the ways in which preparation, planning, assessment and recording contribute to my effectiveness as a teacher. Classroom management will call for particular expertise, as well working with parents, and with my adult colleagues. I look forward particularly to the practical part of the course, working in a school, observing, and gaining real classroom experience, understanding how teachers cope with new pupils and seeing how relationships develop. The prospect is an exciting and challenging one. Outside the classroom my interests include research on things people see as obvious – a passion inspired in me by my being a lecturer and acquired during my doctoral studies. I also enjoy volleyball, gardening and travelling. I believe that teaching is a profession which involves the whole personality of the teacher, and that the rewards are not just for the pupils. I am sure that the teacher’s role will help me to develop myself, both academically and personally. The teacher has a privileged position, making an impact on a child’s life that will form that child, and stay with him or her through adulthood. I have every confidence that I have the necessary personal and professional qualities to become a very successful secondary school teacher and lecturer in the international set up, should you find me an appropriate fit for the post.
